1. Communications and Representing the Organization |

He/she has a passion for conservation as related to the GSEP mission and should be the pulse and information source for the organization. Uses internal and external communications such as news releases, speeches, newsletters, E-Blast messages, etc. to effectively get the message out on conservation news involving GSENM or GSEP, issues or projects. Uses the details in the Annual Work Plan to guide the frequency of communications such as newsletters and E-Blasts. Solicits assistance from Board, staff, GSENM staff and others to aid in communications. The Executive Director regularly reports to the Board on opportunities taken or available and obstacles encountered in the above endeavors. |

2. Fundraising and Grant Writing |

Searches for grants or donations to cover annual operational requirements. Directly writes or delegates the writing of such grants to appropriate trained persons. Tracks grant/donor expenditures insuring that expenditures are legal and appropriate for grant conditions and donors’ stated desires. Reports to the Board on success and status of grants to ensure the consistent achievement of the GSEP mission, goals and objectives. Assists with developing, planning and participating in organizational fundraising events, special events or other public meetings/gatherings. Works with the Board President and others to establish and maintain good relationships with donors and grant funders. |

3. Conservation Projects |

Implements field work and/or conservation projects as specified in the Annual Work Plan. Coordinates plans and actions among GSEP staff, GSENM managers/staff or other entities. Works to make changes transition smoothly by seeking input and keeping applicable staff, Board, or other persons informed. Ensures photo documentation is taken and if appropriate media releases are distributed. This includes reporting status of such work projects or conservation programs to the Board on a timely basis. Documents such collaboration. Lets members and stakeholders know on a recurring basis the outcomes of these projects. |

4. Implements Strategic Plan |

Works with Board to keep the GSEP Strategic Plan current. Is an active participant in Board meetings and committee meetings by providing visionary and strategic direction as well as applicable up-to-date program information. Assists Board and/or GSEP Committee members with tasks taken on by those individuals. Evaluates and reports to the Board on the budget’s impact to strategic goals. Ensures that the expenditures are legitimate under grant guidelines, donors’ wishes and common accounting protocols. Tracks and makes budgetary changes within his/her authority or analyzes alternatives and recommends revisions to the Board. Internal financial protocols are developed with the Board or Committee and monitored to ensure compliance. |

5. Supervision of Staff |

Uses appropriate advertisements or notices to recruit staff. Works with Board President to determine whether interviews and recommendations on selection necessarily involve the Board or Committee members. Ensures that orientation, safe work practices and other necessary training are provided to the staff that may include fulltime or part time employees, interns, and volunteers. Provides direction and evaluates the staff’s work performance. The type or and extent of evaluations are related to the specific position but a formal evaluation is completed at least annually. Occasionally this position may work with appropriate BLM staff to advertise, hire, train and utilize seasonal interns that are employed through funds managed by the GSEP but working directly for GSENM staff. In such cases, works with appropriate GSENM staff to ensure training, direction and evaluations are completed. |

6. Membership and Website Programs |

Uses an appropriate membership database and donor tracking program to record, track, recognize and renew members and donors. Ensures that this information is accurate and up-to-date. Makes minor changes to website or membership programs by adjusting protocols or software capacity to increase effectiveness of these programs. Major changes are recommended to the Board. Works with Board and the Membership Committee to develop plans for organizing and conducting membership drives and other related activities such as lectures, service projects or membership events. Takes direct, specified actions to meet the membership-increasing goals in the Annual Work Plans. Assists members into becoming more active in the organization and encourage selected ones to participate on the Board and become officers. Inquiries through the website or electronic mail are responded to in a timely manner by the appropriate person. |

7. Administrative and Programmatic Activities. |

Handles inquiries and correspondence in a timely fashion. Ensures that appropriate GSEP records, documents and files are filed in a central location for later retrieval and use by staff or the Board. Develops and implements office policies and procedures for staff and Board. Works the GSEP booth at special events but also schedules staff and/or Board members to assist with the booth. Usually attends the annual Rendezvous of Friends or similar conferences approved by the Board. Travels as required to Escalante Field Office at least 8x per year and elsewhere as necessary. |
