Food and Drink
Registered participants in "Through an Artist's Eye" Field Institute class will be provided with breakfast and lunch in the field. All other meals will be on your own. You will also need to supply your own beverages. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted. Remember that water is especially important and to bring more than you expect to need (at least one gallon per person per day).
Carpooling
Field Institute class trips require participants either drive alone or carpool with fellow attendees. Please be prepared by packing supplies in a compact manner and having plenty of gas in your car.
Pets
Pets are not allowed on Field Institute class trips, however nearby boarding facilities exist.
Discounts
Members of Grand Staircase Escalante Partners receive a 10% discount on class fees (unless otherwise noted).
Safety
All Field Institute classes involve inherent risks. The Field Institute disclaims any responsibility for bodily injury or property loss or damage that occurs during any trip. No registration is complete without a signed waiver form. GSENM is an area with temperature extremes, steep cliffs, flash floods, rock falls, wild animals, and varying elevations. Classes take place in remote areas that lack access to medical facilities and personnel.
Climate and Hydration
GSENM is a desert. From late May to early September it can be very hot. In July and August temperatures exceeding 105 degrees Fahrenheit are likely. Therefore, it is recommended that you consume one gallon of water per day per person. July and August are also our "monsoon" season. At these times of the year layers of clothing are recommended that can be shed as the day warms up. We get over 300 days of sunshine per year. Hats and sunscreen are highly recommended.
Cancellation Policy
In order to receive a refund of your class fees, you must notify GSE Partners in writing of your cancellation 30 days prior to the beginning of the class (course fee refunded minus a 10% processing fee). As a non-profit with a limited budget and limited class spaces, we are unable to process any refunds for cancellation made within 30 days of a scheduled class, even for medical and emergency reasons. We strongly suggest you purchase trip cancellation insurance through your travel agent. GSENM reserves the right to cancel Institute classes up to one week prior to their starting date if minimum enrollment is not met. A full refund will follow. The Institute may also amend trips and itineraries due to weather and/or other conditions.
