Seeds of Success

Native plants are the keystone to healthy ecosystems, but wild sources of seed for these important species are getting smaller and smaller. GSEP seed technicians collect seeds as part of the Seeds of Success Program. Our work makes sure that native plant species from southern Utah are represented in restoration seed mixes. The team travels across thousands of miles of public land every year to search for suitable populations of native plants that are healthy enough to contribute seeds to restoration and research projects throughout the Intermountain West. The species are carefully selected based on their ability to thrive in the American West, support wildlife and pollinators, and contribute to habitat restoration after natural disasters such as wildfires.
